Acts of Parliament issued in 1549, 1552, 1559, and 1662, aimed to unify the rites and prayers of the Church of England. (1) 1549: At the same time as the establishment of the First Prayer Book, it also included provisions for penalties for violators. There was strong resistance to these provisions among the public, and rebellions broke out in the west and Norfolk (east). (2) 1552: A measure taken in conjunction with the revision of the Prayer Book (establishment of the Second Prayer Book). It made it compulsory for ordinary believers to attend church services. It is believed that the intention was to unify faith nationally. (3) 1559: Combined with the Act of Supremacy, it became a pillar for rejecting the old church under the reign of Mary I and reestablishing the Church of England. It ordered the use of a slightly more conservative version of the Prayer Book of 1552. Radicals were dissatisfied with the Regulations on Clerical Dress and other regulations. (4) In 1662, the Church of England was reinstated with the Restoration, but the revised Prayer Book (which has undergone several partial changes and is still in use today) was given binding force to all clergy. About 2,000 clergymen refused to submit and were stripped of their stipends, making the distinction between Catholics and non-Catholics clear.
