Geihoku [town] - Geihoku

Japanese: 芸北[町] - げいほく

A former town in Yamagata County, northwest of Hiroshima Prefecture. Located in the Chugoku Mountains, forestry and dairy cattle raising, which takes advantage of the cool climate and highlands, are thriving industries. Rice and vegetable cultivation is also carried out. Tarutoko Dam is at the source of the Shiwaki River. National Route 186 runs through the town, and there are scenic spots such as the Yawata Plateau and Mount Ungetsune. In February 2005, it merged with Oasa Town, Chiyoda Town, and Toyohira Town in Yamagata County to become Kitahiroshima Town. 253.63 ^km2 . 3,093 people (2003).
