A field of function theory that deals with functions with two or more independent variables. A complex-valued function w = f ( z ₁ , z ₂ , …, z _n ) defined in a domain D of the complex n -dimensional space C ⁿ ( n ≧ 2) is said to be regular in D if it is complex partially differentiable at each point ( a ₁ , a ₂ , …, a _n ) ∈ D , that is, if the following holds: For each k = 1, 2, …, n , f ( a ₁ , …, a _{k -1} , z _k , a _{k +1} , …, a _n ) is a (single-variable) regular function in the neighborhood of a _k as a function of z _k .

関数論の中で，二つ以上の独立変数をもつ関数を対象とする分野である。　複素n次元空間Cⁿ(n≧2)の領域Dで定義された複素数値関数，　w＝f(z₁,z₂，……，z_n)は，もし各点(a₁,a₂，……，a_n)∈Dで複素偏微分可能のとき，すなわち次のことが成り立つとき，Dで正則であるという。各k＝1,2，……，nに対し，f(a₁，……，a_k－1,z_k,a_k＋1，……，a_n)がz_kの関数としてa_kの近傍で(一変数)正則関数である。
