...He is the greatest poet in the Manyoshu in terms of both quality and quantity, and his bold, rhetorical style is considered to be unique in the history of Japanese poetry.
[Family and biography]
According to the Kojiki, the Kakimoto clan was descended from Ameoshitarashihiko, the son of the fifth Emperor Kōshō, and is related to the Kasuga, Oyake, Awata, Ono, and other clans. The Shinsen Shojiroku records that the name Kakimoto originated from the fact that the family had persimmon trees during the reign of Emperor Bidatsu. The family name was originally omi, but in 684 (the 13th year of Tenmu's reign) it was changed to ason.
