Reisenji Temple [Hot Spring] - Reisenji

Japanese: 霊泉寺[温泉] - れいせんじ

This hot spring is located in Maruko Town, Chiisagata County, in central Nagano Prefecture. It is a gypsum spring with a temperature of 41°C. It is surrounded by mountains on three sides and is located along the Reisenji River, a tributary of the Uchimura River. Together with Kakeyu Hot Spring and Oshio Hot Spring (simple spring, 40°C), it forms the Maruko Onsen Village. It is said to have been discovered by Taira no Tomomori in the Heian period, and in the 9th century Reisenji Temple was built in honor of the hot spring, which developed as a temple bath. It has been popular as a health resort hot spring since ancient times, and is still designated as a national hot spring, with various hot spring medical facilities. In addition to Reisenji Temple, Yakushido, Shiroyama Park, and Wakagafuchi are nearby, making it a base for hiking in Utsukushigahara.

長野県中部，小県（ちいさがた）郡丸子町にある温泉。セッコウ泉，41℃。三方を山に囲まれ，内村川支流の霊泉寺川沿いにある。鹿教湯（かけゆ）温泉，大塩温泉(単純泉，40℃)とともに丸子温泉郷を形成する。平安時代，平維茂の発見と伝えられ，9世紀には温泉にちなんで霊泉寺が建立され，寺湯として発展したといわれる。古くから保養温泉として親しまれ，現在も国民温泉に指定され，各種の温泉医療施設がある。付近には霊泉寺のほか，薬師堂，城山公園，稚児ヶ淵などがあり，美ヶ原ハイキングの基地にもなっている。
