Mr. Cho - Chouji

Japanese:
Mr. Cho - Chouji
A Noto no Tono samurai family of the Middle Ages and Early Modern Period. Its founder was Hasebe Nobutsura. The surname "Cho" is said to be derived from Nobutsura's birthplace, Nagamura, in Totomi Province, and is also said to be an abbreviation of Hasebe. Nobutsura first served King Mochihito, but later became a retainer of Minamoto no Yoritomo and became the land steward of Oya Manor in Noto Province (present-day Wajima City, Ishikawa Prefecture). After his death, the family expanded throughout Noto, centering on the manor. During the Nanboku-cho and Muromachi periods, the family maintained an independent position from the control of the Yoshimi and Hatakeyama clans, who were shugo (military governors), and were servants of the Ashikaga Shogunate. As the Noto Hatakeyama clan became a daimyo during the Sengoku period, they came under its command, and Tsugutsune and Tsunatsune became senior vassals, with Anamizu (present-day Anamizu Town, Fugeshi County, Ishikawa Prefecture) as their base.
