Rei River

Japanese: 麗川 - れいせん

An industrial city on the southern coast of South Jeolla Province, South Korea. It was once a farming and fishing village at the tip of the Yeosu Peninsula, but in the late 1970s, the 18 ^km2 petrochemical complex (Yeocheon Industrial Complex) was built in the northern part of the city, making it the largest industrial area in Jeolla Province. The city's Mikkah Port, which was developed and expanded, is a port for exporting petroleum and shipping petrochemical products. In 1998, it was merged with Yeosu City and Yeocheon County to form Yeosu City. Population: 278,000 (2005).

韓国，全羅南道の南海岸にある工業都市。麗水半島先端の農漁村だったが，1970年代後半に市の北部に18km²に及ぶ石油化学コンビナート〈麗川工業団地〉が建設され，全羅道随一の工業地帯となった。整備・拡張された市内の三日港は，石油の輸出，石油化学製品の積出し港。1998年麗水市，麗川郡と統合して麗水市となる。27万8000人（2005）。
