An architect of the Roman Empire who was active in the early 2nd century. He is said to have been from Damascus in Syria. He went to Rome during the reign of Emperor Domitian towards the end of the 1st century and became the chief architect for Emperor Trajan. He was exiled for 130 years and eventually executed for his harsh criticism of the Temple of Venus and Rome designed by Emperor Hadrian. He was responsible for the great bridge over the Danube in Drobeta (now Turnu Severin) in Romania (104-105), the Forum Trajani (107-113) and a marketplace.

2世紀初めに活躍した,帝政ローマ時代の建築家。シリアのダマスクス出身といわれる。1世紀末ころドミティアヌス帝時代にローマに行き,トラヤヌス帝の首席建築家となる。ハドリアヌス帝の設計したビーナスとローマの神殿を酷評し,それがもとで130年追放され,やがて死罪となった。ルーマニアのドロベタ(現,トゥルヌ・セベリン)でドナウ川に架けた大橋(104‐105),〈トラヤヌスのフォルムForum Trajani〉(107‐113)とマーケットなどを手がける。
