60-130 An architect of the Roman Empire who was active in the early 2nd century. He is said to have been from Damascus in Syria. He went to Rome during the reign of Emperor Domitian towards the end of the 1st century and became the chief architect for Emperor Trajan. He was exiled for 130 years and eventually executed for his harsh criticism of the Temple of Venus and Rome designed by Emperor Hadrian. He was responsible for the great bridge over the Danube in Drobeta (now Turnu Severin) in Romania (104-105), the Forum Trajani (107-113) and a marketplace.
