A perennial herb of the Scrophulariaceae family that grows in sunny mountain grasslands. The stems are erect and reach a height of about 1m. The leaves are opposite, circular at the base, almost stalkless, ovate with a pointed tip, 5-12cm long, 2.5-4.5cm wide, and have many sawtooth edges. In July and August, a 10-20cm long flower spike appears at the end of the stem. The flowers are bluish-purple gamopetalous and about 7mm in diameter. The corolla is saucer-shaped, divided into four broad ovate lobes, and has a very short tube. There are two stamens. The fruit is an oblate capsule, slightly concave at the tip, and 3mm long. 山地の日当りのよい草地に生えるゴマノハグサ科の多年草。茎は直立して,高さ1mほどになる。葉は対生し,基部は円形でほとんど柄がなく,卵形で先がとがり,長さ5~12cm,幅2.5~4.5cm,縁に多くの鋸歯がある。7~8月,茎の先に長さ10~20cmの花穂を出す。花は青紫色の合弁花で,径約7mm。花冠は皿形をなし,広卵形の裂片に4裂し,ごく短い筒がある。おしべ2本。果実は扁球形の蒴果(さくか)で先がややへこみ,長さ3mm。
