The most famous migration route in the history of American westward development. It is a 3,200 km journey from Independence, Missouri, across the Great Plains and Rocky Mountains to the Oregon region, and the migration took four to six months. Although it was known as a transportation route since the 1820s, it was not used by emigrants until 1841, and the migration of a large group of over 1,000 people in 1843 made this route particularly famous. Their experience in organizing wagon trains, camping methods, replenishing food and feed, and necessary tools helped subsequent emigrants.
