A French storyteller from the late Middle Ages, circa 1388-1461. Born near Arles at the end of the 14th century as the son of a famous mercenary captain who was active in Italy and elsewhere. He served the Count of Anjou as a page from an early age, and spent most of his life at court. During that time he traveled throughout Europe, participating in wars and tournaments, and his experiences inspired his works such as "The Tournaments and Art of War of the Old Days" (1459). Earlier, he wrote such books as "The Helmet" (1437) and "The Hall" (1451) for the education of the children of the Count of Anjou. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
