Luristan Bronze Artifacts

Luristan Bronze Artifacts

This refers to a special type of bronze artefact that has been unearthed since the late 1920s in the Luristan region in southwestern Iran. Most of the items have appeared in the market as a result of tomb robbery by local residents, and none have undergone academic investigation. Most of the excavated items are from stone pit tombs with large stone lids and a stone circle that is said to have been around the mound. There is a wide variety of items, including axes, swords, arrowheads, horse equipment, and carriage decorations decorated with animal ornaments. There are also many pins and cosmetics. These bronze artefacts seem to have a close relationship with the culture of the Caucasus region in the northwest, and the animal designs suggest that they belong to a horse-riding people. Because the excavated items were looted, it is difficult to determine a chronology or absolute date, but most of the bronze artefacts are estimated to date to the 8th to 7th centuries BC.
