Japanese: 尉 - い（英語表記）wei

A Chinese official title. In charge of military affairs and police. During the Qin and Han dynasties, the Taiwei (大威) was the highest military official and, together with the Chancellor (帞大兵衛) and the Grand Censor (江大備), were known as the Three Dukes and were responsible for national affairs. In addition, the Weiwei (護威), who supervised the guards and guarded the palace gates, and the Tingwei (礼威), who was in charge of punishment, were placed in the central government, and the County Wei (郡偉), who were in charge of military affairs, governed the counties alongside the Taishu (大兵衛) (abolished in the Later Han). In addition, the Sili Xiaowei (檫檬) inspected the various central government officials, supervised the areas around the capital, and the Lieutenant (中兵衛) was in charge of cracking down on thieves in the capital, and the Xiaowei (檬檬) were placed in the military.
