A French author of fairy tales. After ending her unhappy marriage to Beaumont, she traveled to England in 1745, where she worked as a teacher while also making a name for herself by publishing works, mainly children's literature. When she returned to England in 1762, she wrote works such as the heavily autobiographical Memoirs of Baroness de Batville (1776). She published as many as 70 books in her lifetime. When writing children's literature, Madame de Beaumont aimed for a "simple style of writing that matched the tenderness of a young soul." From today's perspective, her writing style seems awkward and didactic rather than natural, but her contribution to increasing the readership of children's literature in the 18th century must be acknowledged.

フランスの童話作家。ボーモンとの不幸な結婚を解消したあと，1745年に渡英，教師を務める一方で，主として児童文学の作品を発表して文名をあげ，62年に帰国すると自叙伝傾向の強い《バットビル男爵夫人の回想》(1776)などを著す。生涯に刊行した作品は70冊にも及ぶ。ボーモン夫人は児童文学の執筆に際し，〈幼い魂の優しさにつりあった，すなおな文体〉を志した。今日からみると自然らしさより，ぎごちなさを感じさせる文体で教訓臭が強いが，18世紀に児童文学の読者を増やした功績は認めなければならない。
