...Mozart's masterpiece "The Magic Flute," performed in a rundown theater in Vienna, is one example. This type of opera shares common elements such as simple sentiment, spectacle, and the conflict between the world of evil and the world of good, and has developed into the suspenseful "rescue opera" that led from Cherubini's "Two Days" to Beethoven's "Fidelio," and on the other hand into the national type of Romantic opera, a typical example of which is Weber's "Der Freischütz."
