Born: April 1, 1881, Lasinari, Transylvania
Romanian poet and politician. Born in Transylvania under the Austro-Hungarian Empire to a priest's family, he studied at the University of Bucharest. He began writing poetry in middle school, and his lyric poems, which describe the suffering of Romanian peasants under ethnic and social oppression, are included in Poezii (1905), Ne chiamǎ pǎmîntul (09), and Din umbra zidurilor (13). He was driven out of his hometown after participating in the independence movement, but after moving to Romania he gradually became more right-wing, embraced fascism in the 1930s, and contributed to the establishment of a monarchical dictatorship as prime minister from 1937 to 1938.

ルーマニアの詩人，政治家。オーストリア＝ハンガリー帝国治下のトランシルバニアで司祭の家に生れ，ブカレスト大学に学んだ。中学時代から詩作を始め，民族的抑圧，社会的圧迫のもとに苦しむルーマニア農民の姿をうたった抒情詩は，『詩集』 Poezii (1905) ，『大地はわれらを呼ぶ』 Ne chiamǎ pǎmîntul (09) ，『壁の影から』 Din umbra zidurilor (13) などに収められた。独立運動に参加して郷里を追われたが，ルーマニアへ移ってからは次第に右傾化し，1930年代にファシズムを受入れ，37～38年には首相として王制独裁体制の成立に寄与した。
