A literary and academic circle that gathered in the 1510s at the Lucellai family, a powerful family in Florence. Machiavelli recited his Discourse on the First Ten Books of Titus Livy (also known as Treatises on the Politics or Treatise on the History of Rome) here. In 1522, a member of the group attempted a failed coup against Giulio de' Medici (who became Pope Clement VII the following year), who ruled Florence at the time.
