Bunen Eika - Bunen Eiga

Japanese:
Bunen Eika - Bunen Eiga

A collection of poems ordered by Emperor Taizong in 982 (the 7th year of the Rise of Taiping) in the early Song Dynasty of China to embellish the text of "Taiping". It has 1000 volumes. It was started by Song Bai and others, and it took many years to complete, with successive editors. The title was modeled after Xiao Tong's "Poetry Garden Yinghua" of the Liang Dynasty, and the content was intended to follow Xiao's "Wen Xuan", and it was intended to include the essence of poetry and prose from the Liang-Chen period to the Five Dynasties period of the Tang Dynasty. However, the selection ended up leaning heavily towards the Tang Dynasty, and it also wavered in the direction of comprehensiveness, and its literary position was weakened. Later, because it was handed down for a long time in manuscript form and errors occurred, Peng Shuxia and others proofread it under Zhou Bida (1126-1204) of the Southern Song Dynasty. This makes clear the significance of this rare resource, which contains the original text from the early Song dynasty that continues the collected version from the end of the Tang dynasty, as well as poetry and prose that were lost at the end of the Northern Song dynasty. It was reprinted by Hu Yixin in the Ming dynasty, but since it was based on an excerpt from the Zhou publication, the Beijing Zhonghua Book Bureau edition, which contains several volumes of the original publication, is somewhat superior. In Japan, early Ming manuscripts that predate the Hu editions are held in various institutions, providing a means of correcting errors in the Hu edition.
