Les Rougon‐Macquart
This is a series of works that is the masterpiece of the naturalist novelist Emile Zola. It has the subtitle "The Natural and Social History of a Family during the Second Empire" and consists of 20 volumes. It is said that Zola conceived the idea for this series in 1868, when he was 28 years old, and he originally planned to have a total of 10 volumes. However, after publishing the first volume, "The Flourishing House of Rougon," in 1871, his ideas gradually expanded, and he continued to write about one volume a year, until he published the final volume in 1893, when he was 53 years old. The titles from the second volume onwards, in order, are: "The Feast," "The Belly of Paris," "The Conquest of Plassins," "The Sin of Abbot Mouret," "Himself Eugène Rougon," "The Tavern," "A Page of Love," "Nana," "Hodgepodge," "The Bonheur des Dames," "Joie de Vivre," "Germinal," "Production," "The Earth," "The Dream," "The Beast-man," "Money," "Destruction," and "Doctor Pascal."
