Choibalsan

Japanese: チョイバルサン
Choibalsan
Mongolian revolutionary and politician. Born to a poor nomadic family. He was sent to a lamamonastery at a young age, but in 1912 he went to Urga (Ulaanbaatar) and then to Irkutsk to study, where he encountered the Russian Revolution and was strongly influenced by it. In 1919 he joined the national liberation movement, helped found the Mongolian People's Party in 1920, and played a leading role in the 1921 Mongolian Revolution. He held key positions in the military, the People's Revolutionary Party, and the government, and promoted pro-Soviet socialism. It is said that Stalin actively supported Mongolianism as a satellite state defending the Soviet Union from the threat of Japanese imperialism due to its geographical location. In 1939 he became prime minister and served in that position until his death. He led the 1939 Khalkhin Gol War (Nomonhan Incident) and the country's entry into the war against Japan in 1945, and strengthened his personality cult and dictatorial tendencies, earning him the nickname "Mongolian Stalin," but was criticized after his death.
