Japanese: ルイ[9世] - ルイ
Louis [IX] - Louis
King of France of the Capetian dynasty (reigned 1226-1270). Son of Louis VIII. Known as the "Holy King" or "Saint Louis" for his devout faith. At first, his mother was regent. In 1234, he took direct rule. He worked to maintain peace within the country, and promoted centralization by founding the Paris High Court and the Court of Accounts. He expanded the royal domain by acquiring Normandy and other territories from England. He launched the Seventh Crusade, but was captured at Damietta, and was able to travel to the Holy Land after paying a ransom. He died of an illness during an expedition to Tunis during the Eighth Crusade. His biography of Joinville is famous.
