King of France (reigned 1461-1483). Son of Charles VII. As Dauphin after the Hundred Years' War, he participated in conspiracies against the king. After ascending to the throne, he suffered from conspiracies by other nobles. He fought against Charles, Duke of Burgundy, and was briefly captured, but later sought to expand royal power, and after Charles' death, he seized the duchy.
