This was a peasant uprising that broke out in Matsumoto Domain, Shinano Province, in October 1686 (Jokyo 3), and was named after Tada Kasuke (Kasuke), who was the central figure. As Jokyo 3 was a poor harvest year, the village headmen first appealed to the magistrate's office, outlining their dissatisfaction with the heavy taxes on a daily basis in five areas. These included the abolition of threshing of rice when paying annual taxes, a reduction in the amount of rice paid to 2.5 sho, 1 50% rice per sack of 500 gram, a reduction in the price of soybeans as a cash payment, the abolition of rice being sent to the local government, and the limiting of rice transport to the castle border. Encouraged by the village headmen's appeal, ordinary peasants also rose in revolt, approaching the castle gates while destroying privileged merchants.

1686年(貞享3)10月，信濃国松本藩に起こった百姓一揆で，中心人物が多田加助(嘉助)であったことからこの名がある。貞享3年が凶作であったことから，日ごろの重税の不満を5項目にまとめて庄屋連がまず奉行所に愁訴した。年貢納入の際の籾（もみ）踏みの廃止，納め籾を1俵5斗入りで五分摺りの2斗5升とすること，大豆の金納相場を下げること，差し米の廃止，城米輸送は領分境までにすることなどであった。庄屋連の出訴に励まされて一般農民も蜂起し，特権商人の打毀（うちこわし）もしながら城門に迫った。
