Located in the southeastern part of the state of Nebraska in the United States, this is the state capital. It has a population of 203,000 (1994). Salt development began in the lowlands in 1856, and the town was founded in 1859, becoming an important supplier of salt. When the state of Nebraska was established in 1867, it became the state capital, and was renamed after the 16th president, Lincoln. It is a commercial and industrial city at the heart of the livestock and grain region, and is home to industries such as agricultural machinery and food. Lincoln

A commercial city and the capital of Lincolnshire in the central west of the county in eastern England, England. In Brythonic it was called Lindon, and in Roman times it was called Lindum or Lindon colonia. Population 76,660 (1981). It is located on a cue at the confluence of the Witham and Till rivers, and developed as a transportation and commercial city at the intersection of the Ermine Road and the Foss Way Roman roads from Roman times. It is now the central city for the surrounding rural areas, and also has industries such as heavy machinery, light metals, car parts, radios, and food.

Abraham Lincoln

1809‐65
16th President of the United States. In office from 1861 to 1865. Born to a farmer in Kentucky, he moved to Indiana and then Illinois, living in New Salem from 1831. He worked as a general store manager, surveyor, and postmaster before studying law and becoming an attorney. In 1837 he moved to the state capital, Springfield, and opened a law office. During that time, he volunteered in the Black Hawk War in 1832 and participated in the Indian subjugation. In 1834 he was elected to the state House of Representatives as a Whig member, serving for eight years. In 1842 he married Mary Todd.

イギリス，イングランド東部，リンカンシャー(州)中央西部にある商業都市で州都。ブリトン語ではリンドンLindon，ローマ時代にはリンドゥムLindumまたはリンドン･コロニアLindon coloniaと呼ばれた。人口7万6660(1981)。ウィザム川とティル川の合流点にあるケスタ上に位置し，ローマ時代からアーミン街道とフォス･ウェーの両ローマ道の交点にある交通･商業都市として発展した。現在は周辺農村の中心都市であると同時に，重機械，軽金属，自動車部品，ラジオ，食品などの工業も行われる。

リンカン【Abraham Lincoln】

1809‐65
アメリカ合衆国第16代大統領。在職1861‐65年。ケンタッキーの農民の子に生まれ，インディアナ，続いてイリノイに移り，1831年からニューセーラムに住んだ。雑貨店経営，測量技師，郵便局長などの職を経つつ法律を勉強して弁護士となり，37年州都スプリングフィールドに移って法律事務所を開いた。その間，1832年にブラック･ホーク戦争に志願してインディアン討伐に参加，34年にはホイッグ党員として州下院議員に当選して8年間務め，42年にはメアリー･トッドと結婚した。
