A polarizing prism that uses birefringence. It is made by bonding two pieces of calcite or quartz together so that their crystal axes are perpendicular to each other. It can separate incident light into two orthogonal polarized lights that form a certain opening angle. It can be used up to the ultraviolet region, and is used as various analyzers and polarizers.
