Rio

Japanese: リヨ
Rio
French astronomer. Became a member of the Meudon Observatory in 1920. He used polarized light to observe the surface conditions of planets, and in 1930 invented the new coronagraph, which could take pictures of the inner corona even outside of a solar eclipse. In 1933, he invented the Lyot filter, which allows only light of an extremely narrow wavelength range to pass through, making it possible to film monochromatic images of solar eruptions and prominences.
