Japanese: 教相 - きょうそう

〘Noun〙① A Buddhist term. Refers to the form of the teachings of Shakyamuni's lifetime, and refers to the characteristics and differences of doctrine. The teachings of one lifetime. ② A Buddhist term. The act of discerning and judging Shakyamuni's teachings based on the doctrines of each sect. Also, the doctrinal theories of each sect. In Tendai Buddhism it is used in contrast to contemplation of the mind, and in Shingon Esoteric Buddhism it is used in contrast to matter. *Kakukai Hokyo Hogo (late 12th century - early 13th century) "Even those who study the Shingon teachings of their own sect, those who only study matter and Shingon are in a normal view. Those who establish teachings are in an empty view." ③ A theory of education. *Proposal for a Great Elementary School (1869) by Kato Yurin "I will never propose to establish a teaching at a great university."
