This is the slang term for the Kansai style, given to Japan's first ready-to-wear women's clothing, which became popular from the end of the Taisho era to the beginning of the Showa era after World War I. It is a loose-fitting short-sleeved summer dress, and its simplicity and practicality suited to the Japanese climate made it popular and spread throughout the country. It is made of a modest single layer of cotton and generally has a belt of the same fabric around the waist.
