1520?-91 French storyteller. He was a Burgundian nobleman and a capable judge, but throughout his life he wrote collections of short stories set in rural areas. Les buonos (1547) records old tales told by village elders in the shade of oak trees, while Les buonos (1548) is a collection of events encountered by the author's alter-ego in the village. Both works excel in their precise depiction of rural life, and their lively style, which makes use of dialect, suggests the great influence of Rabelais.
