Arsenopyrite (English spelling: arsenopyrite)

Arsenopyrite (English spelling: arsenopyrite)
Also known as poisonous sand. A mineral with the ideal chemical formula FeAsS. Co replaces Fe up to a ratio of Fe/Co = 1/3. When Co≧Fe, it is called glaucodot. The As/S ratio also varies within the range of 0.9/1.1 to 1.1/0.9, with a high S content being triclinic, and as the As content increases, the crystal becomes more symmetrical, with FeAs 1.1 S 0.9 being monoclinic. The euhedral crystals are long or short columns with a rhomboidal cross section, but are often in the form of blocks. Cleavage is not clear.
