Arsenopyrite (English spelling: arsenopyrite)

Also known as poisonous sand. A mineral with the ideal chemical formula FeAsS. Co replaces Fe up to a ratio of Fe/Co = 1/3. When Co≧Fe, it is called glaucodot. The As/S ratio also varies within the range of 0.9/1.1 to 1.1/0.9, with a high S content being triclinic, and as the As content increases, the crystal becomes more symmetrical, with FeAs _1.1 S _0.9 being monoclinic. The euhedral crystals are long or short columns with a rhomboidal cross section, but are often in the form of blocks. Cleavage is not clear.

毒砂ともいう。理想化学式FeAsSの鉱物。Feを置換してCoがFe/Co＝1/3まで入る。Co≧Feの場合グローコドートglaucodotの名称が与えられる。As/S比に関しても，0.9/1.1～1.1/0.9の範囲で変動し，S量が多いものは三斜晶系，As量の増加に伴い対称性が高くなり，FeAs_1.1S_0.9では単斜晶系となる。自形結晶は菱形の断面をもつ長柱状，短柱状であるが，塊状をなすことが多い。へき開は明瞭でない。
