Otaru University of Commerce

A national university corporation. It was originally founded in 1910 as Otaru Higher Commercial School. It was renamed Otaru College of Economics in 1944, and was promoted to a university under the new system in 1949. At the time, it was the only single-faculty commercial college in a national university with only a Faculty of Commerce. It has four departments (Economics, Commerce, Corporate Law, and Social Information Studies). The junior college department, which was established in 1952, was reorganized in 1991 along with all departments of the Faculty of Commerce, and courses were established that were mainly taught at night. It aims to develop human resources with an emphasis on internationalism and law. It has a graduate school of commerce (doctoral course). It has been sending excellent human resources to the business world all over the country since before the Second World War, and is also known for having writers such as Takiji Kobayashi and Sei Ito as its alumni. In April 2004, it became a national university corporation with the enforcement of the National University Corporation Act. The address is 3-5-21 Midori, Otaru, Hokkaido.
