Granular spots - Ryujohan

Granular patterns seen on the surface of the Sun. Hot gas masses rise from the convection zone below the photosphere and reach the photosphere. Their heads appear as granular spots. They are about 500 kilometers in size, and occupy a tiny angle of less than one arcsecond as seen from Earth. They can be seen when there is good seeing (fluctuations in the image of a celestial body caused by turbulence in the Earth's atmosphere). They can now be observed in detail from scientific satellites outside the atmosphere. Sometimes bright streaks appear at the boundaries of the granules. This is called filigree. It is thought to be an area where magnetic fields are concentrated by the convection motion of the granules.

太陽面上に見える粒状の模様。光球の下部にある対流層から熱いガス塊が上昇して光球にまで達する。その頭部が粒状の斑点として見える。大きさは約500キロメートルで、地球から見た視角は1秒角以下という小さいものである。シーイング（地球大気の空気の乱れに起因する天体像のゆらぎ）がよいときに観察できる。大気圏外の科学衛星から詳しく観測できるようになった。ときには、粒状斑の境に明るい筋が現れる。これをフィリグリーとよぶ。粒状斑の対流運動で磁場が集められた領域と考えられている。
