〘名〙① 地球上の、赤道から南北の回帰線までの地帯。今日の「熱帯」をいう江戸から明治初期にかけての語。※漂荒紀事(1848‐50頃)序「即赤道直下の国なり。直下より南北各二十七度半の間を暖帯と云」② 地球上の温帯のうち、亜熱帯に近い地帯。暖温帯。[補注]①は長久保赤水、橋本宗吉の地図に使用されたため比較的普及し、明治になっても福沢諭吉の「世界国尽」や久米邦武の「米欧回覧実記」などで使われた。
