A town in the northwest of Tokunoshima, Oshima District, Kagoshima Prefecture. The town's center, Hetono, has a port where large ships can dock, and Asama is also home to Tokunoshima Airport. The town produces sugarcane and has a sugar refinery. Bananas are also cultivated, and pigs are raised. Area: 80.40 km2 . Population: 6,653 (2010).
