Sanko - Sanko

Japanese: 三江 - さんこう

There are several things referred to as the Three Rivers in Chinese classics, but the most famous, and the one whose identity has long been debated by scholars, is the one in the Book of Shangshu by Emperor Yu Gong, which reads, "The Three Rivers have already flowed into the sea, and the Zhenzei River has stabilized." This is thought to be a record of flood control in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River (Yangtze River) in ancient times, but there are many theories about the three rivers, including: (1) that they refer to the Ganjiang, Hanjiang, and Minjiang rivers in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River (such as the theory of Zheng Xuan quoted in the First Study Record); (2) that the lower reaches of the Yangtze River were divided into three, and there are various theories about the course of each river (such as the Geography section of the Book of Han); (3) that they refer to the main watercourse at the tip of the Yangtze River delta, east of Lake Taihu in Jiangsu Province (such as the Records of Wu Diji); and (4) that they include the Qiantang River and the Puyang River in addition to the Yangtze River (such as the commentary by Wei Zhao in the Guoyu).

中国の古典で三江と称されるものはいくつかあるが，最も著名で古くからその比定をめぐり学者の論争がくりかえされてきたのは《尚書》禹貢に〈三江既入，震沢底定(三江がすでに海に流れ込み，震沢も安定するようになった)〉とみえるもの。これは古代における長江(揚子江)下流域の治水について記したものと考えられるが，この三江をめぐっては大別すれば，(1)長江中流域の贛江（かんこう）･漢江･岷江を指すとするもの(《初学記》の引く鄭玄（じようげん）の説など)，(2)長江の下流部が三つに分かれていたとするもの，おのおののコースには各種の説がある(《漢書》地理志など)，(3)江蘇省の太湖以東，長江デルタ先端部にあった主要な水流を指すとするもの(《呉地記》など)，(4)長江以外に銭塘江や浦陽江が含まれるとするもの(《国語》韋昭注など)，などの説があり一定しない。
