Power factor meter

Japanese: 力率計 - りきりつけい（英語表記）power factor meter

An indicating instrument that measures power factor. The electrodynamometer type combines a wattmeter and a reactive wattmeter. The moving coil consists of two coils that are perpendicular to each other, and a load voltage is applied to one through a resistor and the other through a capacitor. If this moving coil is placed inside a fixed coil through which a load current is passing, the coil will rotate by the phase difference θ between the load voltage and current and reach equilibrium. Therefore, if the scale plate is graduated in cosθ, it becomes a power factor meter. If it is graduated in θ, it becomes a phase meter, and if it is graduated in sinθ, it becomes a reactive wattmeter. There are single-phase and three-phase versions, and some are moving iron types.

力率をはかる指示計器。電流力計型では，電力計と無効電力計とを組合せた構造をもつ。可動コイルは互いに直交した2個のコイルから成り，一方は抵抗を通して，他方はコンデンサを通して負荷電圧を加える。負荷電流を流した固定コイルの中にこの可動コイルを置くと，コイルは負荷の電圧と電流との位相差θだけ回転して平衡に達する。したがって，目盛り盤上に cosθ の目盛りをつけると力率計になる。θで目盛ると位相計，sinθ で目盛ると無効率計になる。単相用と三相用があり，可動鉄片型のものもある。
