Annual Events of Tozan - Tozan Annual Events of Tozan

Annual Events of Tozan - Tozan Annual Events of Tozan
This is a record of the annual events of the various halls and shrines on Mount Kamijo and Mount Kinpu in Yamato, a sacred site of Shugendo. It is owned by Yoshinosan Chikurin-in Temple. The first half of the book contains the "Annual Events of the Mountain," which records the annual events of the various halls and shrines by date, and the second half supplements this with the "Records of Annual Practical Activities at Mount Kinpu" and the "Diary of the Flower Offerings by the Head Priest." Since the era names of Oei, Eikyo, and Kyotoku can be seen in the text, it seems to have been compiled shortly thereafter (around the mid-15th century). The colophon at the end of the book suggests that the editor was Kinpusan Senjyuin Ryuhen. In addition to the Shushou-e ceremony of the various halls and shrines, the Hakko lectures on the Lotus Sutra, and the rice-planting rituals, it also contains valuable information on events unique to Shugendo, such as the Oi-watashi ceremony, Genkurabe, and the Miekou ceremony of En no Gyoja.
