Scarron (1635-1719, later known as Marquise de Maintenon), who had a somewhat frivolous air, and, at the end of the 17th century, the salon of Ninon de Lenclos (1620-1705), which brought together free thinkers (libertines). After the death of Louis XIV (1715), during the Regency period, the salons of the Marquise de Lambert (1647-1733) (c. 1710-1733) where debates such as "The Superiority of the Ancients and the Moderns" (the Old and the New debate) took place, and the salon of the Duchesse du Maine (1676-1753), famous for her flamboyant literary games and unrestrained manners (held at her house in Sceaux, south of Paris), appeared.
