Pandanus
French composer. Born in Paris to the German composer L. Adam (1758-1848) of Alsace, he was recognized by the composer Boieldieu at the Paris Conservatoire. After achieving success with operas such as The Coachman of Longjumeau (1836), he released Giselle (1841), a masterpiece of romantic ballet. Pandanus

An evergreen shrub of the Pandanaceae family. It is found in tropical and subtropical areas of Southeast Asia and the Indian Ocean region, and in Japan it grows in coastal areas south of the Tokara Islands. The trunk bends obliquely upwards, and has thick aerial roots. The leaves are linear lanceolate, 1-1.5m long, 5-7cm wide, leathery and shiny, and grow at the terminal end. Dioecious. The spadix is ​​white. The fruit is an aggregate, somewhat pineapple-shaped. The leaves are used for hats, knitting, etc.

タコノキ科の常緑低木。東南アジア,インド洋地域の熱帯〜亜熱帯に分布し,日本では吐【か】喇(とから)列島以南の沿海地にはえる。幹は斜上屈曲し,太い気根を出す。葉は線状披針形で長さ1〜1.5m,幅5〜7cm,革質で光沢があり頂生する。雌雄異株。肉穂花序は白色。果実は集合果でややパイナップル状。葉は帽子,編物等に用いる。
