Yoshio Akao

1907-1985 A publisher and broadcasting entrepreneur in the Showa era.
Born on March 31, 1907. Founded Obunsha (now Obunsha) in 1931. The following year, began providing correspondence corrections for entrance exam questions and launched the magazine Juken Shunpo (later known as Keisetsu Jidai). After the war, he continued to publish English vocabulary books (Mametan) and run entrance exam courses on radio and television. Chairman of both Nippon Cultural Broadcasting and Nippon Educational Television (now TV Asahi). Died on September 11, 1985. Age 78. Born in Yamanashi Prefecture. Graduated from Tokyo School of Foreign Languages (now Tokyo University of Foreign Studies).

明治40年3月31日生まれ。昭和6年欧文社(現旺文社)を創立。翌年受験問題の通信添削をはじめ,雑誌「受験旬報」(のちの「蛍雪時代」)を創刊。戦後も英語の単語集(豆単)の刊行,ラジオ・テレビの受験講座などを手がけた。文化放送,日本教育テレビ(現テレビ朝日)両社の会長。昭和60年9月11日死去。78歳。山梨県出身。東京外国語学校(現東京外大)卒。
