Anao (Nara) - Anou

...A valley along the Nyu River. In the past, it was also written as Anao, Anao, Anau, and Kanao. In the document of Yoshimizu Shrine, a lost temple land certificate dated February 1334 (1st year of Kenmu), the manor name appears as "Uchi County Nishianao Manor," and there are other references in other historical documents from this period. In particular, Kanao became the most important base of the Southern Court in relation to the conflict between the Northern and Southern Courts, and so the name appears frequently in historical documents from this period.
