Wŏn-sŏng-wang (Genseiō)
?‐798
King of Silla, Korea. Reigned 785-798. Family name Kim, given name Keishin. Became Sangdaedeung by supporting King Seondeok's accession to the throne, and claiming to be a descendant of King Namul, he ascended to the throne over Kim Juwon, who was of King Muyeol's lineage. After this, there were troubles over the succession, including the rebellion of Kim Heonchang, and the line of King Wonseong came to occupy the throne. Based on Confucianism, he established the Five Temples system, and in 788 he created a department of those who had studied reading, and institutionalized the appointment of officials with Confucian background.
