Choga Mami (English spelling)

A prehistoric site in Iraq at the western foot of the Zagros Mountains. In order to explore the relationship between the prehistoric cultures of Northern and Southern Mesopotamia, David and Joan Oates began exploring the area around Mandali near the Iranian border, a previously knowledge-free area, in 1960. They selected this tell out of several and excavated it, confirming for the first time the remains of the oldest irrigation canal dating back to the 6th millennium BC. The remains of the Samarran period canal were excavated in the southwestern part of the tell, measuring approximately 2m in width, and showed signs of movement over time.

ザーグロス山脈の西麓にあるイラクの先史時代遺跡。北メソポタミアと南メソポタミアの先史時代文化の関係を探る目的で，オーツ夫妻David & Joan Oatesがこれまで知識の空白地帯であったイラン国境近くのマンダリー近辺を1960年から踏査し，いくつかのテルのうちここを選び発掘して，前6千年紀にさかのぼる最古の灌漑用の運河跡をはじめて確認した。サーマッラー期の運河の遺構はテルの南西部で発掘され，約2mの幅をもち，時代による移動の跡が認められた。
