Landrace [seed] - Landrace
A breed of pig. Developed in Denmark by crossbreeding a native breed with a Large Yorkshire. It has a long, streamlined body and well-developed thighs. Its ears are droopy, and its skin and fur are white. It is large, weighing around 300-330 kg. It has a lot of meat with little fat. It grows quickly and is an excellent source of bacon and ham. It was first imported to Japan in 1960, and has since become popular.

ブタの一品種。デンマークで在来種と大ヨークシャー種を交配,改良して作出された。胴伸びがよく流線型で,腿(もも)もよく発達している。耳はたれ,皮膚,毛は白色。大型で体重は300〜330kg前後。脂肪が薄く肉量が多い。ベーコンやハムの原料用としてすぐれ,発育は早い。日本には1960年にはじめて輸入され,その後急速に普及した。
