Lannathai (English spelling)

Japanese: ラーンナータイ（英語表記）Lannathai

A kingdom of Thai people centered around Chiang Mai in northern Thailand that existed from the end of the 13th century to the beginning of the 20th century. The traditional culture of these peoples formed in the northern region is called Lanna Thai culture. Lanna Thai is said to mean "Thailand of a million rice fields." In China, it has been known as "Eight Hundred" since the Yuan Dynasty. The main ethnic group is the Tai Yuan, also known as Kong Muang, meaning "people of Muang (city)." Other Thai ethnic groups include the Thai Lue, Thai Khun, Thai Nhone, and Thai Yai (Gio).

タイ北部のチエンマイを中心とし，13世紀末から20世紀初頭まで存続したタイ系民族の王国。また北部地方に形成されたこれらの民族の伝統文化はラーンナータイ文化と呼ばれる。ラーンナータイは〈水田百万のタイ〉を意味するといわれている。中国では元代以来，〈八百〉の名で知られていた。主要民族はタイ･ユアン族で，〈ムアン(城市)の人〉を意味するコン･ムアンとも呼ばれる。そのほかにタイ･ルー，タイ･クーン，タイ･ニョーン，タイ･ヤイ(ギオ)などのタイ系民族が含まれる。
