A variable attenuator constructed by combining resistive elements. It is used to adjust the signal level and as a standard for attenuation when measuring the gain, loss, and distortion rate of communication lines, amplifiers, filters, etc. There are also fixed resistive attenuators called pads. Attenuator circuit types include T-type circuits and π-type circuits, and all elements are composed of non-inductive resistors so that uniform attenuation can be provided over a wide frequency range. The characteristics of a resistive attenuator are specified by two characteristic values: the attenuation amount and the nominal impedance, which is necessary to achieve impedance matching with the connected circuit.
