Cloud Dream - Unbou (English spelling) Yun meng

Japanese: 雲夢 - うんぼう（英語表記）Yún mèng

A place name in the state of Chu that appears in ancient documents from the pre-Qin period in China. It can also be referred to by itself as Yun or Yun. This interpretation has long been debated, and it has been one of the important issues in Chinese historical geography. Currently, Yunmeng is thought to refer to a wide area including the surrounding mountains and fields, centered on the lakes and marshes that formed in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River (now the center of Hubei Province). The lake in the center was one of the reservoirs that was formed to naturally regulate the flow of tributaries such as the Han River and Ju River that flowed into the Yangtze River at this point. It occupied a wide area between the Han River and the Yangtze River, east of today's Jiangling County (where Ying, the capital of Chu and Wu, was located), and its area was not constant due to factors such as precipitation and glacial expansion.

中国で先秦時代の古い文献にみえる楚の国の地名。単独で雲，あるいは夢とも称される。この解釈をめぐって古くから議論があり，中国歴史地理の重要な問題の一つであった。現在では，雲夢とは長江(揚子江)中流域，今の湖北省中央部に形成されていた湖沼を中心に，周囲の山野をも含む広範囲を呼んだものと考えられている。その中央にあった湖沼は，この地点で長江に流入する漢水や沮水（しよすい）などの支流の流量を，自然に調整するために形成されていた遊水池の一つで，今の江陵県(楚呉の都，郢（えい）のあったところ)の東，漢水と長江の中間を広く占めていたもので，その範囲は降水量や氷河の伸長などによって一定してはいなかった。
