1834‐99 French conductor. He started out as a violinist, and after graduating from the Paris Conservatory in 1854, he became a musician at the Paris Opera. His marriage to a wealthy woman was a blessing that helped him realize his daily ambitions. The most important of these was the founding of the Nouveau Concert in 1881, after serving as the conductor of the Paris Opera and the Paris Opera.
