Alba Iulia

Japanese: アルバ・ユリア(英語表記)Alba Iulia
Alba Iulia
Located in central-western Romania, it is the capital of Alba County. It has a population of 73,000 (1994). It is located in the eastern foothills of the Apuseni Mountains in the Western Carpathians, facing the Transylvanian Plateau across the Mures River. It is 232 meters above sea level, with an average annual temperature of 9.5°C and an average annual precipitation of around 600 mm. It is a base for hiking and sightseeing in the Apuseni Mountains, and is also a key transportation hub for north-south traffic, with railways and roads running parallel to the Mures River, which runs roughly north-south. The town originated from the Dacian fortress Apoulom, located 20 km north of the town, about 2,000 years ago, and was the political and economic center of Dacia at the time (Latin name Apulum).
