Japanese: マンガベイ - まんがべい（英語表記）mangabey

An Old World monkey belonging to the Cercocebus genus of the Cercopithecidae family of primates. It has a slender body with a head and body length of 45-60 cm and a tail length of 60-90 cm, and can skillfully move its tail. It is characterized by its white eyelids. Mangabey is the name of a region in Madagascar, and Buffon mistakenly gave this monkey a name from there. There are several different types of mangabeys, including the sooty mangabey C. atys , the agile mangabey C. galeritus , the white-necked mangabey C. torquatus , the white-capped mangabey C. albigena (illustration), and the pointed mangabey C. aterrimus , but the classification is still fluid.

霊長目オナガザル科マンガベイ属Cercocebusに属する旧世界ザル。頭胴長45～60cm，尾長60～90cmで，ほっそりとした体型をしており，尾を巧みに動かす。まぶたが白いのが特徴である。マンガベイというのはマダガスカルの一地方名で，ビュフォンがこのサルをそこからきたものと誤ってつけた名である。スーティマンガベイC.atys，アギルマンガベイC.galeritus，シロエリマンガベイC.torquatus，ホオジロマンガベイC.albigena（イラスト），トンガリマンガベイC.aterrimusなどが区別されるが，その分類はまだ流動的である。
